A semi-inground pool is the perfect hybrid solution for challenging terrain. Unlike traditional pools that require a perfectly flat site, our semi-inground systems can be partially buried or sit entirely above ground on one side. This allows you to build into hills, integrate with existing decks, and minimize costly excavation.

Custom-engineered steel panels handle the structural pressure of being partially exposed.

Perfect for any yard
Sloped, rocky, high water table, semi-inground pools adapt to challenging sites where traditional pools may not be practical.

Installed in days
Less excavation and efficient installation mean less disruption and more time enjoying your pool.

Built to last decades
American-made steel and advanced G-235 corrosion protection help your pool look and perform its best for years to come.

A finished look families love
Semi-inground pools create opportunities for integrated landscaping, decking, and exterior finishes.
Tailored solutions for every backyard challenge.

Designed for backyards with elevation changes where a traditional pool may require extensive excavation.

Reduce major digging and work around challenging terrain with a more flexible installation approach.

Create a seamless transition between your pool and an existing or new raised deck.

Semi-inground designs can work well in compact yards while still creating a comfortable outdoor living area.
Whether you want a clean rectangle, a softer freeform look, or something designed around your space, there’s a semi-inground layout that can work beautifully in your yard.

One of our own builders trusted this wall system enough to use it on his own family’s pool. Jeff, a Hydra dealer in Wisconsin, built himself a 300-foot lazy river with a rectangle pool, a swim-up bar and a lounging cove built right into the loop, all set entirely in-ground on the same 52-inch wall system featured on this page. COMMON QUESTIONS
Answers to what most homeowners ask before they reach out.
Overall, the pool kit is comparably priced to a traditional inground, but you typically save significantly on excavation — less digging means less cost on site prep and hauling dirt away. Many homeowners find the total installed price is lower than a full in-ground build.
The Samson 52” comes in five shapes — Rectangle, Grecian, Lagoon, Oval, and Round — with a wide variety of size combinations from 10’ × 20’ up to 18’ × 33’ and larger. All panels are built in 4-foot sections for easy handling and a precise fit. See our sizes chart above, or ask your dealer about custom configurations.
Hydra offers exclusive liner patterns in 20, 27, 28, and 36 mil (pet-friendly) thicknesses, all made from premium North American vinyl. Every liner carries a 20-year pro-rated warranty and is compatible with the Samson 52” system.
Semi-inground pools are installed partially below grade with a reinforced concrete footer and support system. Most installations have about 12” below ground with a maximum of 36” exposed above grade depending on the yard and overall design.
Permit requirements vary by location, but semi-inground pools are typically permitted similarly to traditional inground pools. Your local Hydra dealer can help guide you through the permitting process and site planning requirements in your area.
In addition, exposed walls can be finished with materials like natural stone, pavers, wood, composite materials, or integrated decking. Many homeowners use the exposed wall area as part of the overall backyard design to create a more custom finished appearance.
A local Hydra dealer can evaluate your space, discuss your goals, and help design a semi-inground pool that fits your backyard.
